I'm two for two in Baker City! (See previous review in profile). The Earth & Vine is a restaurant that could very well also be straight out of Portland or San Diego (or Ventura, or even the Arts District of downtown Las Vegas). I am humbled by the newfound knowledge that such a small, unassuming town such as Baker City could be home to a restaurant/wine bar/local art gallery such as this. Earth & Vine is a charming and cozy (but not cramped) spot to enjoy a meal and admire the art displayed throughout. The woman who served me was beyond friendly, attentive to my needs, and had a good sense of humor. It's only appropriate then, with such good service, to report that the food was to die for! To start, I had the house salad with dried cranberries and toasted almond slices with a side of balsamic vinaigrette. It was fresh, tasty, and made with delicious mixed greens. For my entree, I enjoyed an Italian flatbread pizza. Without spoiling it for you by telling you exactly how it tasted and exactly how it made me feel, I will just inform you that, when I return, I WILL be ordering this again. And, of course, this is the entree that I recommend you try! Rounding out my already-full stomach with dessert, I ordered a slice of Huckleberry cheesecake. Yes, you read that right. Huckleberry cheesecake. All you need to know is that it tasted even better than it sounds. (How is that even possible?!) After today, I want to move to Baker City for the quaintness of the town along with its amazing restaurants! I will be back, BC, and Earth & Vine!

Great find! Had lunch there on the 7th day of an 8 day road trip. Very comfortable, clean, and the design was upscale and urban. Excellent food, lot's of healthy options. It was a great experience. Our service was prompt, friendly, and since it was the owner, she gave us great descriptions of the menu items.

We had lunch here with locals who know the place and the owner. I really like the look of the restaurant: spacious, attractive art, etc. There is a decent wine list but we had beer as Barley Brown pale ale is served. I had a Caesar salad with chicken added. It was fine...not best ever but good. My wife had a chicken salad sandwich and liked it. The owner served us and was attentive. She also prepared most of the food but not most desserts. It was a good place for lunch.

We eat at Earth & Vine every time we're in Baker City. They never disappoint us, we ate their breakfast this am, we usually aren't here on weekends and that's when they're are open in the am. OMG, best Eggs Benedict and Biscuits & Gravy we have ever had. Service is always top notch and great atmosphere. We have been in the best food restaurants in the country and abroad so we are hard to please. Do yourself a favor and make it a point to eat a meal here, you'll never be disappointed.

Absolutely love this wine bar. It's been five years sense my last visit . The owner remembered my face and time . I was very impressed . Mary the owner is a very gracious person as well as her staff. The food was exquisite ,although a little pricey . If your looking for a place to chill this is it . Relaxing ,quiet and friendly.

Wow, great find in Baker City. I stopped in on my way from Portland to Boise, didn't want an "Applebee's" road experience. Great little bistro like setting surrounded by local art, and wines. Mary the owner and chef greeted me personally and made me feel like I was a long time customer and native. I had a pesto pasta salmon dish. Fresh salmon and clearly home made pasta, it was great. When in Baker City, this is THE cool, trendy place to eat and relax. Great experience socially, visually and gastronomically!

Very thrilled to find this place--thanks, Yelp! The food and staff were both great and very accommodating. The only downside was the wait for the food, but that was probably due to a very large party ahead of us and only one server. Wait aside, the menu is kid-friendly and so are the staff.

I love the food--creative, healthy and great quality. I only give four stars because the service is incredibly slow--just about every time I've been there. If you're in no rush and want to just relax with some wine, beer, etc while waiting for some delicious food, then this is the place for you!

My husband and I developed some pretty high restaurant standards while living in the San Francisco area for the past two years. Since moving to Baker City about five weeks ago, we have tried as many new places as possible, hoping to narrow down some favorites. So far, Earth & Vine is tied with one other place for our #1 choice - we've been three times already. The atmosphere is classy and unpretentious, the food is fresh and delicious, the service is prompt and friendly, even the restroom is nice! They have outdoor seating on a quiet street, a good wine selection, and the work of local artists on display. My favorite menu items are the cheese fondue, shrimp cocktail, and the salami flatbread pizza. When he tasted the pizza, my husband said, "Why would anyone ever make a pizza that isn't this one?!" It's a good question.

Fresh but overpriced...(for lunch) This place is only good in comparison to your other options in this town, most notably because having fresh food ingredients means a lot. But I was surprised that sandwiches cost $9. I know this doesn't sound like a lot - lots of places charge $9+ for sandwiches - but most sit-down sandwich places that charge $9 a sandwich typically give you some side or serious garnish, or put forth something a big more volumous, or are gourmet. These sandwiches were none of those things. I might go again if I were in the same situation (driving across Oregon), but I'd prefer just to pack a pb&j.

Great little wine bistro on the quiet town of Baker. Good wine selection and wonderful turkey/cranberry cheese sandwich. Don't miss out on this little gem.

On my quest to try some of The Sweet Wife's cakes (the bakery is not open to the public for anything other than special orders), we headed to Earth and Vine. This was based on a couple coworkers telling me that they sold products from her bakery here. Apparently this is one of the only places in town that does so in fact. So off we went, and walked in on a bright weekday afternoon. It was just shy of lunch time, so we were greeted by a happy hostess with menus in hand. I quickly informed here that we were here for coffee and desserts only, provided they happened to have said desserts. Upon hearing this, the hostess sadly informed us that she had sold out of every single slice of cake the previous afternoon, and had just this morning been brought a pumpkin cheesecake and a carrot cake as emergency backup cakes. This was very sad, as my two least favorite cakes are pumpkin anything and carrot cake. When I told the hostess this she readily agreed with me, and said those were her least favorites as well - but that even she liked The Sweet Wife's. We briefly discussed the lesser of two evil choices and went with an order of the carrot cake and two French press coffees. After taking our seats by the window and looking around at the lovely modern decorations, we were presented with not only our carrot cake, but a complimentary slice of the pumpkin cheesecake. We were told that, coming from a fellow cheesecake hater, that this one simply had to be tried to be believed. True to her word, it was very good. Probably the best pumpkin anything I've ever had. Will I ever order a slice on my own though? Doubtful. The carrot cake was delicious though. Not heavy on the nuts, I really hate nuts in cake. Rich, thick cream cheese icing. Lots of golden raisins. The prices are pretty steep here, so be warned. For two coffees and one slice of cake it came to $13. We will be back, as my quest was not completely successful this time. For the love of cake, I will go far. . . and pay a lot apparently.

We love it! Great food, wine, and ambiance! My favorite is their homemade cheese on their cheese platter and my hubby said his french dip sandwich was "oh so yummy". It is truly a family love affair, my mom loves it, too!

Love this place! I was passing through and looked it up on yelp. You will not be disappointed! Great food great ambience, and great prices. The food was delicious, fresh, and well presented. I like the high tables and chairs in the large windows to observe passing cars and people. Fun corner store and great selection of food!

A menu printed by Sysco should be enough to tip me off that I was bound to be disappointed. Ordered a French Dip, and received a piece of beef on a bun. Yes, a single, solitary piece of thin meat. My server knew nothing about wine, and well, working at a wine bar you should probably learn a thing or two. She suggested a chardonnay to go with my sandwich. No kidding. When I mentioned that I would prefer a red wine, she had to go check what was open. And the girl would not smile at all at her customers. The only time I saw any pleasant emotion on her face was when chatting with her coworker about her upcoming wedding. Spendy tab, shoddy quality food, inexperienced service.

Just had breakfast here this morning which they serve on Sat & Sun. Lovely, clean and airy space lined with large windows. Friendly staff. I had a breakfast sandwich on a baguette that was sooo good. Good thick bacon and the texture of the baguette was perfect, not too crusty or chewy that it tears you mouth up but not to pillowy either. Friend had a breakfast burrito that looked delicious. My niece asked them to make something for her that wasn't on the menu and they were happy to do it. Brother ordered a French dip off the lunch menu, I had a bite and it was really tasty. I would definitely go back. Oh, and the bathroom was very clean too.

Really enjoyed our lunch at the Earth & Vine. Two of us shared a hummus plate, Greek salad, and vegetarian wrap. Everything was excellent. Healthy, fresh meal was a delight on our drive through the area on I-84. We will definitely stop back in when nearby again.

Located just a block or two off of Baker City's main street in the downtown center, Earth & Vine is a combination wine bar, casual restaurant and art gallery. Part of the charm of the place is the eclectic "mission". We visited Earth & Vine twice during a trip to Baker City last month. Although it likely would not be competitive in a bigger city, or even in the relatively small but wine / food sophisticated city in which we live, as things go in Baker City this is the "class of the company" and we enjoyed it. Our four star rating reflects the fact Earth & Vine is in Baker City because it would be much lower if we were comparing this to others in the category in other locations. Although billing itself as mostly wine bar, we noted that the number of beers available on the menu exceeded the wines available by the glass by about half a dozen. And while only one or two of the wines was what we'd think of as great quality, they were not bad wines. It was also a good thing that so many of the offerings were from Northwest vintners, but there are wonderful wines being produced in the NW, in particular in nearby Walla Walla Washington, so it was surprising to find few of those really good wines on the menu. Part of that may be due to the fact that the owner is, by her own admission, still relatively new to wine appreciation and learning herself. Part of the lower end nature of the wine list may be due to the fact that she's trying to introduce the concept of wine bar to Baker City and wants approachable price points for wine pours by the glass. The food pairing menu is of relatively simple small plates; things like turkey sandwiches with cranberry cheddar cheese, pre made rice paper wrapped dim sum, cheese plates and salads. It's not food to write home about, but it fills the bill for a little something to nibble with, if not nessarily pair with, the wine. There are also bottles available to purchase and drink in store, with a 20% discount if you are purchasing to go. The problem is that the top notch specialty food and wine store up the street, Bella, offers nearly all of the same wines at a better everyday price. (In fact, Bella offers an incredible selection of wines, domestic and imported, and is well worth a visit for that reason as well as the specialty food and kitchenware selection.) The service is friendly, if not particularly knowledgable about wine, and the ambience is delightful. The color combo of leaf green and grape purple is perfect, the lighting is great, the big windows make you feel connected to the world outside and the changing assortment of local art (for sale) all makes for great decor. If we lived in Baker City we'd be repeat Earth & Vine customers just for the fun of the place. We'd also try to encourage the owner to "up her game" in terms of both wine and food served...and maybe start to differentiate her business by being the only Baker City eating palce to offer a farm to table focus.

This is a cute little gallery & restaurant! A quaint wine selection and dozens of local artists' pieces on display & for sale! As far as the food goes, their weekend Mimosa was delicious, the fruity strawberry crepes were perfect (with the minor exception that they could have gotten by less cream cheese filling). Oh yeah, and the Southwest Burrito was probably the best dish I tasted, though it's not spicy at all (so ask for Tabasco or something else to give it some kick if you desire!). Overall, a little pricey relative to cheaper diners in town, but good quality makes up for it.
